McAvennie makes January signing claim as Celtic player offer reported

Celtic and West Ham legend Frank McAvennie joined the Football Insider stable in June 2020 and has not disappointed with his own brand of unique punditry. He loves talking football almost as much as he loved scoring goals, and still has close links in the dressing room at Parkhead.

Celtic should look to sign new players in January instead of offering new terms to their existing stars.

That's the opinion of Parkhead icon Frank McAvennie, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the latest club news.

On 5 October, The Daily Record reported Celtic are set to offer Greg Taylor a new deal which includes a pay rise.

It was reported the defender is on the same terms he agreed when he joined the Hoops from Kilmarnock two years ago.

The Daily Record claim a "two or three-year extension" is on the cards with his current deal set to expire in 2023.

However, McAvennie would rather Celtic signed some new players in January.

When asked for his thoughts on Taylor's possible new deal, McAvennie told Football Insider's Ben Wild, "You don't want me to say what I really think.

"It's one of them, he's coming back in after injury and I don't know if he suits the system.

"I won't have a go at someone who is after a new contract but I would rather see signings than extensions.

"I've criticised the full-backs so often this season and I stand by that. I think we need new ones.

"That's just a personal opinion from me. All power to Taylor if he gets offered that deal.

"But personally, I want to see some movement in January."

Taylor has made 11 appearances for the Hoops this season.

He has registered two assists in all competitions.
