Union Berlin have had a bid accepted by Liverpool for goalkeeper Loris Karius as he heads out to Germany to finalise a transfer, Football Insider understands.

The 27-year-old has been granted permission to undergo a medical today and try to reignite a career that has stalled since his calamitous performance in the 2018 Champions League final.

A Liverpool source has told Football Insider that the club have accepted a "significant" loan bid for Karius to join for the 2020-21 season.

Manager Jurgen Klopp told his fellow German earlier in the window that he was free to find a new team.

The Merseysiders had keen to secure a permanent transfer after Karius spent the previous two seasons on loan at Besiktas.

The Turkish outfit opted not to take up their option to convert Karius' loan into a permanent transfer for £7million.

Liverpool had hoped in the current window to recoup the £4.5million fee they paid to Mainz in the summer of 2016.

But that has not been possible and Karius has been given permission to leave on another loan as the Premier League champions trim their wage bill.

Klopp had no plans to re-integrate Karius back into his squad this season.

Alisson is widely regarded as the outstanding goalkeeper in the Premier League, if not world football, and Adrian has made a strong impression as his deputy since joining on a free last summer.

Karius' reputation took a massive hit with his error-strewn performances in the last months of 2017-18, culminating in the Champions League final defeat to Real Madrid in Kiev.
