England Under-18 defender Matthew Bondswell is headed to West Ham on Monday for a medical after agreeing the terms of a move, Football Insider can exclusively reveal.

The Irons are on the verge of seeing off competition from multiple clubs to seal the capture of Bondswell, 18, from RB Leipzig.

A West Ham source has told Football Insider that the club have agreed a permanent deal for the left-back with Leipzig.

He has been granted permission to head to the east London club on Monday to discuss personal terms and undergo medical tests.

It is expected he will cut short his season-long loan at Dutch second division side FC Dordrecht and then become the Hammers' second signing of the January window.

The club won the race for another in-demand young defender at the end of last month when they signed Danish centre-back Frederik Alves.

Landing Bondswell would also be a major coup for West Ham given the calibre of clubs pursuing him.

Portugese giants Sporting Lisbon joined David Moyes' side and Chelsea in the race for him lat month.

Bondswell is regarded by talent spotters as having the athletic and technical ability to thrive at senior level.

He has spent the last two years at Leipzig, after joining the legions of young British players lured to Germany.

The teenager was in the Nottingham Forest youth ranks for eight years before his transfer in 2018.

The teenager joined Dutch second division side FC Dordrecht last August on a season-long loan in order to get regular game time.

He has made seven appearances this season, six of which have come as a starter in league matches.
