Tottenham attacker Marcus Edwards has jetted out to Italy to finalise a late-window move to Udinese, Football Insider has learned.

The 20-year-old is poised to undergo a medical with the club who finished 12th in last season's Serie A as he puts the finishing touches to the move.

A Spurs source has told Football Insider that Edwards is set to complete the transfer before the end of the week after being granted permission to hold talks with Udinese.

The winger has been frozen out of the Spurs squad during the new campaign despite making a sound impression while on loan at Dutch Eredivisie outfit Excelsior last season.

Edwards has pushed for a move abroad rather than drop down to a club in League One or League Two, where the window for transfers remains open until the end of August.

He is convinced the Italian top flight will suit his technical playing style, which so excited Mauricio Pochettino that he handed him his Spurs debut while still only 17 and hailed him as a future great.

Edwards has struggled to live up to those expectations and has been criticised by Pochettino for his attitude and lack of professionalism.

But the rising star ignited his career by moving to Holland last season and playing regularly for Excelsior, where he scored three goals and supplied five assists from 33 appearances.

The Tottenham academy product has entered the final year of his contract at the club.
