Nathan Baker is undergoing a medical at Bristol City as he prepares to join the growing Aston Villa exodus, according to a reliable journalist.

Bristol-based reporter Andy Stockhausen claimed on his personal Twitter account on Friday morning that the defender, 26, is poised to join the Championship club on a permanent transfer.

Stockhausen explained that Baker is undergoing medical tests ahead of signing a contract with City and is in line to be in their squad to face Dutch club FC Twente in a friendly tonight (FRIDAY).

Manager Steve Bruce is reshaping his squad following the recent signings of veteran centre-back pair John Terry and Christopher Samba.

Academy product Baker is departing even though he was a mainstay of the side last season in central defence alongside James Chester.

In other Aston Villa transfer news, the club have reached an agreement in principle to sign an attacker from a Premier League giant.
