Victor Valdes has dropped a massive hint he is about to sign for Middlesbrough after he followed the club on Twitter.

It was reported on Wednesday that the former Manchester United goalkeeper is in Middlesbrough to complete a medical and it now seems the deal could be nearing a conclusion.

Valdes had a spell with Belgian side Standard Liege after being frozen out under Louis Van Gaal at United last season and Middlesbrough would be just the fourth side he has represented in a long and illustrious career.

Valdes managed just five appearances for Liege on loan, but could be set for a starting berth at Middlesbrough.

Manager Aitor Karanka is desperate to secure a top goalkeeper this summer ahead of their return to the Premier League.

Valdes would certainly fall into that category with 12 years as Barcelona's No.1 stopper under his belt and six La Liga titles to his name.

Although the 34-year-old's career has stalled since making the decision to leave the Nou Camp and join United last summer, it is still a big coup for Boro.
