Former Leeds United midfielder Billy Whitehouse has joined non-league club Alfreton Town, it was announced today (Thursday).

Alfreton announced on their official Twitter account that Whitehouse has signed a contract with the east Midlands outfit for the upcoming season.

The 20-year-old joined Leeds from League Two club Doncaster last summer after signing a one-year contract.

But the creative midfielder was not given a new deal that would have enabled him to return for a second year at Elland Road and was released when his contract expired in June.

Leeds supporters only saw Whitehouse in action on one occasion for the senior side, as he spent the majority of the campaign with Jason Blunt's development squad following an unsuccessful loan spell at non-league Guiseley.

Whitehouse's sole Leeds appearance came when manager Garry Monk selected a weakened team against Sutton United in the FA Cup.

The youngster struggled along with other rookies Mallik Wilks, Tyler Denton and Paul McKay as the Yorkshire giants suffered an embarrassing 1-0 loss and crashed out of the cup at the fourth-round stage.
