Mohamed Salah will be more likely to sign a new contract at Liverpool if Virgil van Dijk also commits his future to the club.

This is according to former Man United and Blackburn chief scout Mick Brown, who remains very well-connected within the game, as he exclusively told Football Insider that Liverpool remain determined to tie both players down to new deals.

This comes just days after Salah caused a stir after confessing no talks have been held over his contract following the 3-2 win against Southampton.

The 32-year-old has been heavily linked with a move to Saudi Arabia and will be able to discuss terms over a pre-contract deal from January onwards.

However, Liverpool remain desperate to commit the forward to new terms and are expected to enter contract talks in due course.

Now, Brown has explained that seeing his teammate commit to a new deal would offer him further security and confidence in the future of the club.

Virgil van Dijk to play key key role in Mohamed Salah contract decision at Liverpool

Now, the former chief scout who has a wealth of experience working closely with players at the top level including over a decade at Man United during their most successful period, has insisted that the captain's decision will tempt Salah to sign.

"They're desperate to commit all three to new deals," he told Football Insider.

"But it's very difficult to pin a label on what Salah is going to do because those talks haven't started yet.

"I think he's looking and saying 'I want to be winning trophies', and they're now top of the league so that's already in Liverpool's favour.

"But I'd expect him to wait and see what Van Dijk does.

"If he sees the captain committing his future to the club, it's an indication that they're moving in the right direction and that's a boost.

"But if he sees his teammates leaving, what does that say about his future?

"So I'd expect him to wait and see what happens with his teammates before we hear anything about him staying or leaving."
