Newcastle 'to go all out for cut-price star signing' after Eddie Howe update
Newcastle United could now be forced to go all out in their attempts to sign Crystal Palace centre-back Marc Guehi in January after Eddie Howe's latest injury update.
Earlier this week, the Northern Echo reported that the Magpies will make a fresh attempt to sign the England international when the transfer window reopens after failing with bids in the summer.
It is suggested that the 24-year-old could be available on a cut-price deal, with his contract running down and no sign of a new one being signed, while Newcastle believe his value has fallen due to the struggles under Oliver Glasner at Selhurst Park.
Now, given the latest news emerging from St James' Park on the status of Emil Krafth and elsewhere that looks to be something Newcastle need to take advantage of.

Speaking ahead of his side's clash with West Ham on Monday night (25 November), Howe revealed that Krafth is set to be out for between six and eight weeks due to injury.
That is the latest in a long line of central defensive injury issues the Magpies have had to deal with this season.
Sven Botman and Jamaal Lascelles have both already spent long spells on the sidelines with their own fitness problems.
This underlines the frailties Newcastle face when it comes to their depth in that position. The likes of Krafth, Lascelles and Fabian Schar are all into their thirties and out of contract next summer.
Bringing in a much younger option such as Guehi would give the Magpies the extra depth needed both to cope with those injury issues and potential departures at the end of the season.
The Crystal Palace man is a proven quality operator in the Premier League and was one of the standout performers in England's run to the final of Euro 2024, which he also started.
He would therefore be an extremely reliable option for Howe's side in the centre of their defence.
Newcastle have also been dealt a blow with the news that their vote against changes to the Premier League's APT rules was unsuccessful.
That looks set to limit the sponsorship deals the club can do with businesses connected to their owners, the Saudi PIF, which may place restrictions on what they can spend in the transfer window.
In that context a cut-price deal for Guehi should appear more appealing than ever for those in the North East.
Newcastle therefore must be ready to make an offer to Crystal Palace for the centre-back, as soon as the January transfer window opens.
