Newcastle United have been told they will have to pay £70million-plus to sign Crystal Palace defender Marc Guehi, sources have told Football Insider.

Palace have since rejected the offer and are holding out for their £70m asking price to be met.

It is believed that London club are using Chelsea's £75m purchase of Wesley Fofana from Leicester to help gauge Guehi's price tag.

Newcastle yet to meet Crystal Palace's valuation for Marc Guehi

Guehi is set to start the new Premier League season at Palace following the bitter disappointment of losing the Euro 2024 final to Spain earlier in the summer.

The centre-back has been vital for Palace since making the £18.5 million move from Chelsea back in 2021 having made 111 appearances and scoring five goals for the club.

Newcastle have been in the market for a new centre-back all transfer window with Sven Botman yet to return from a devastating ACL injury back in March.
