Newcastle United will listen to offers for Jamaal Lascelles as their transformation of the squad continues, sources have told Football Insider.

The club captain, 28, has slipped down the pecking order at St James' Park this season and is no longer a regular starter.

Newcastle boss Eddie Howe is an admirer of Lascelles' attitude and leadership, and regards him as important back-up to star centre-backs Sven Botman, Fabian Schar and Dan Burn.

But the former Nottingham Forest man is not seen as part of the long-term planning at the ambitious north-east club.

Lascelles has a contract that runs until the summer of 2024 after signing a six-year deal in 2018.

Newcastle will listen to offers for the experienced campaigner in the coming windows and there is even a small possibility he could go in January.

However, Lascelles would have to push for a move to go through at that stage, and a £10million offer could be needed, as it would mean United fast-forwarding plans to sign a replacement.

There is set to be a gradual break-up of the players signed during the Mike Ashley era over the next few years.

Botman, 22, has already made a big impact since signing from Lille during the summer following an extensive pursuit, and he has established an impressive partnership with Schar, 30.

Lascelles has made just one Premier League start among five appearances in all competitions this season.

This comes after he made 22 Premier League starts last term, although he did have a spell on the bench when Howe took over as manager.
