Paul Robinson fears Everton “will find it hard” to turn down a big bid from Newcastle United for Anthony Gordon this summer.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Spurs and England number one suggested the Blues’ financial fair play situation could have an impact on the 21-year-old’s future.

Gordon was one of Everton’s standout players in what was a difficult 2021-22 campaign.

A Newcastle source told Football Insider (6 July) that the club submitted a £35million bid for the England under-21 international.

Tottenham are understood to have also expressed an interest in the winger.

Gordon has three years remaining on his contract at Goodison Park.

When asked by Football Insider if Everton would likely have a price that they would sell Gordon for, Robinson said: “The financial fair play situation at Everton is difficult.

“I think they will find it hard to turn down bids over a certain amount.

“At the same time, I think Gordon will be the last player that they sell. He is a top quality player at such a young age. He is a player that Frank Lampard will want to keep, I have no doubt about that.

“I think he is their most valuable asset at the moment. They would get a top transfer fee for him but I think Everton would do business in a lot of other areas before letting him go.”
