Rangers accept 6-figure offer for 'future captain' - Ibrox Sources
Rangers have accepted a loan-to-buy offer from Aberdeen for Ross McCrorie.
The Dons are in the final stages of completing a deal for the Light Blues academy product, 22, as they look to beat Hibernian to his signature.
Ibrox sources have told Football Insider that Rangers and Aberdeen have agreed a deal in which McCrorie will initially join on loan with a view to a permanent transfer for a set six-figure sum.
He was due to undergo an Aberdeen medical this morning after being granted permission to discuss personal terms.
It could mean he has played his last match for Rangers despite being previously hailed as a "future captain" of the club by manager Steven Gerrard as well as a potential star of the Scotland national team.
Ex-Rangers managers Graeme Murty and Pedro Caixinha also raved about the potential of the Scotland Under-21 cap.
McCrorie made his first-team breakthrough as a centre-back, but was used almost exclusively in deep midfield by Gerrard in 2018-19, when he started 16 games.
He was then loaned out last season to Portsmouth in League One and made 12 league starts among 23 appearances before the season was halted prematurely in March.
In total, McCrorie has played 55 times for Rangers, including 31 appearances in Gerrard's first season as manager.
But Gerrard has decided enough midfield and defensive options, with the likes of Steven Davis, Ryan Jack, Glen Kamara, Joe Aribo and Scott Arfield the first choices in central midfield.
