Rangers are set to be limited in their January transfer activity given the ongoing financial situation behind the scenes at Ibrox.

That is according to former Man United chief scout and Sir Alex Ferguson number two Mick Brown, who remains very well-connected within the game, as he exclusively told Football Insider that the manager could face yet more pressure.

The lack of available funds is expected to add to the questions surrounding Philippe Clement's job as they will struggle to add any real quality to his first-team squad.

Rangers' recent strategy of signing young talent is designed to help the club in the future, but has left the manager short of quality strength in depth.

As a result, the squad which has struggled with inconsistent displays and results so far this season is likely to remain largely unchanged with little opportunity for improvement.

It has been said that they will look to explore the loan market, but could find it difficult to beat rivals to top-quality players due to the level of competition.

Philippe Clement's January plans restricted by Rangers financial issues

Brown, who has a wealth of experience in top-level player recruitment after over a decade at Man United during their most successful period, echoed Borson's thoughts as he explained the situation will do Clement's job pressure no favours.

"They're in a difficult position with their finances," he told Football Insider.

"From what I hear, there isn't a lot of room for manoeuvre in the transfer window, so that could limit them.

"They could have a look in the loan market, and sign a few on loan, but I'd expect any real quality player that becomes available will have plenty of interest, so it could be tough for them.

"And it won't do the manager any favours either, because he's under pressure to get results.

"It's not as if he will be able to see it out until January and then add some real quality and kick on in the second half of the season.

"I'd expect he'll have to work largely with what he's already got at his disposal.

"The problem is, they haven't been particularly good and there isn't much strength in depth there.

"I don't doubt they'll be looking already to see who might be available and where they could improve, but it'll be difficult for them."
