Rangers chiefs fear Alfredo Morelos has played his last game for the club after his season-ending injury, Football Insider understands.

The star striker, 25, will undergo surgery after suffering a thigh injury while on international duty.

An Ibrox source has told Football Insider that the club are braced for bids for Morelos this summer - with one offer already lined up - on the back of a series of brilliant performances before his injury.

The forward is out of contract in the summer of 2023 and the upcoming window represents the last chance to secure a major fee for one of Rangers’ prize assets.

Attempts to secure Morelos to a contract extension have failed and Rangers could have to cash in.

They will look to hold out for a fee of over £13million, using his exceptional displays in the Europa League as primary justification.

Morelos is Rangers' top scorer this term with 19 goals in 42 appearances, and he has also supplied eight assists.

His tally of 27 goals in the Europa League makes him the Ibrox club's all-time top goalscorer in European competition.

He has netted 113 times and laid on 51 assists in 224 outings in total since he signed from Finnish side HJK Helsinki for £1m in June 2017.

The fiery centre-forward was absent as Rangers lost 2-1 to Celtic and fell six points behind in the Scottish Premiership title race last Sunday (3 April).

And he will miss the rest of this year's Europa League campaign, with Rangers in action in the first leg of the last eight at Braga tonight (7 April).
