Rangers are in advanced talks to sign Wolfsburg winger Vaclav Cerny, sources have told Football Insider.

The 26-year-old is on stand-by waiting to jet in for a medical and complete a move to the Glasgow giants as the two clubs finalise a full agreement.

Sources say the deal is seen by Rangers as a "huge coup" given the wide forward's pedigree and track record.

He signed for Wolfsburg from Twente for around £6m a year ago and scored four goals in 22 matches in last season's Bundesliga after making his name in the Dutch Eredivisie.

Rangers plan on adding Cerny to summer signings Hamza Igamane, Jefte, Clinton Nsiala, Liam Kelly, Connor Barron, and Oscar Cortes - who rejoined on loan with an obligation to buy in the summer - while Mohamed Diomande made his loan move permanent.

Rangers set for major coup with Vaclav Cerny signing

Since joining Wolfsburg, Cerny hasn't been able to cement himself as a first-team starter making 25 appearances and scoring five goals.

Despite his lack of playing time, Cerny did earn a call-up to Ivan Hasek's Czechia Euro 2024 squad this summer.

He played only once for 55 minutes during their 1-1 draw with Georgia and remained an unused substitute in the other group games as they failed to advance to the knockout stages.

Rangers will be hoping Cerny can add the fire-power they need to wrestle the Scottish Premier League title from arch-rivals Celtic next season.
