Southampton have completed the signing of Ronnie Edwards, who previously had a successful loan spell at QPR.

Edwards had previously been at Southampton, but struggled to break into the first-team.

This season, the defender had been a squad player for the Saints, with Edwards conceding a penalty on the opening day against Wrexham.

Now, QPR have confirmed that the 22-year-old has rejoined the London club, with Emmanuel Fernandez reacting to the news.

Edwards has now rejoined QPR after a successful loan spell at the club in the second half of the 2024-25 campaign.

The defender had previously made 22 appearances last season, and scored two goals as the London club finished 15th in the Championship.

Now, QPR will be looking to put themselves back into the race for promotion, with the side currently 11th in the table, three points off the playoffs.

Upon announcing the news of QPR’s Instagram page, multiple people reacted as Edwards made his return.

One such star was current Rangers man, Fernandez, with the duo formerly being teammates at Peterborough United.

The defender simply liked the post as Edwards made his return.

What did Edwards say about returning to QPR?

Edwards is no doubt excited to be back at Loftus Road.

The defender has not forgotten the success he had at the club last season, when he scooped the Young Player of the Season Award.

Now, the defender is looking to continue where he left off at QPR after signing permanently for his former club.

He told QPR’s official website on 9 January: “I’m buzzing and can’t wait to get going.

“When I came here last January, I had an amazing time. I felt like I was at home straight away, I loved everything about it; the boys, the staff, the fans - so it was a no-brainer for me. 

“I thought my loan probably couldn't have gone any better. It's like a different mentality now, knowing that I'm here permanently. It feels amazing.”

Edwards could make his second QPR debut on Saturday when the R’s travel to Stoke City as they look to return to winning ways after their FA Cup defeat to West Ham.
