Young Rangers midfielder Cammy Palmer has signed a new deal with the club - and fans have taken to Twitter to express their delight.

The Scottish giants announced on their official academy

account on Thursday that Palmer, 17, has extended his stay at Ibrox until the summer of 2020 with a new two-and-a-half year agreement.

Palmer has been a standout for the Gers' Under-20s side during a campaign in which they have played elite English and European sides in the ambitious 'Games Programme' following a re-jig of the youth team operation at the club.

The teenager is yet to break through into the senior Rangers team but he has won rave reviews for his performances at youth team level after stepping up an age group.

Ross McCrorie, who is currently injured after making a huge impact in the first team, is the standard bearer of the club's young academy products, while Jamie Barjonas has also been promoted into the first-team squad.

Palmer, who is renowned for his dynamic displays in central midfield, will be hoping he can follow in the footsteps of his fellow young guns if he continues to make progress.

A section of Rangers fans on social media are excited that the club hierarchy have showed their faith with a new contract, hailing it as "excellent news" for a player who has "impressed me every time I've seen him".
