On-loan Rangers midfielder Jon Toral has agreed the terms of a new Arsenal contract, documents filed with the Football Association have revealed.

The monthly player registration bulletin on the FA website shows that Toral, 22, penned a fresh agreement with the Premier League giants before his January transfer to Ibrox.

Arsenal have not announced the extension for the Spaniard but the paperwork shows that his registration details were updated on 16 January, immediately prior to his Rangers move.

The London club have a habit of agreeing new contracts with players without announcing them, a policy that is especially commonplace with their youth team and emerging players but even occasionally extends to first teamers.

Toral cut short his loan at Spanish top-tier club Granada to join Rangers in the January transfer window on a deal that runs until the end of the season after answering a call from ex-manager Mark Warburton.

He has made eight appearances for the Scottish Premiership club but has not made the same impact as his fellow on-loan January arrival Emerson Hyndman.

Warburton signed the Arsenal academy product for a second time after managing him when he was on a season-long loan at Brentford in 2014-15 in the side that challenged for promotion to the Premier League.

The Spaniard, who is a central midfielder and was prised from the Barcelona academy in 2011, scored six goals and supplied two assists in 37 appearances for Brentford.

He also had a statistically even more impressive campaign at Birmingham last season, where he scored eight goals and supplied four assists in 38 matches and was voted the Championship club's player of the year.

But Toral made little impact at Granada and featured in just six matches in all competitions before his mid-season exit.

New Rangers manager Pedro Caixinha will take charge of his first match on Saturday when Rangers host Hamilton in the Scottish Premiership at Ibrox.
