Rangers are ready to offer a contract to Blackpool sensation Tony Weston, Football Insider can reveal.

This site broke the news last week that the Glasgow giants are working on a deal to sign the 16-year-old this summer and have already opened talks.

A recruitment source has told Football Insider that Rangers are now putting together a contract to lure the youngster this summer.

He is one of the top targets for the Ibrox youth set-up that has yielded such poor dividends in recent years.

Rangers announced earlier today the rising star quartet of Jack Thomson, Brian Kinnear, Robbie Fraser and Alex Lowry have all signed new contracts.

The club, who are closely aligning their academy and senior recruitment set-ups amid a shake-up orchestrated by sporting director Ross Wilson, are also looking to add Weston.

The young forward, 16, is regarded as an outstanding young player.

He has already made his first-team debut at Blackpool even though he does not turn 17 until September.

Weston has caught the attention of talent spotters north and south of the border with his precocious performances.

Born in Liverpool, he joined Blackpool as a junior and has won numerous academy Player of the Year awards throughout his time at Bloomfield Road.

He made his senior bow as a substitute in an FA Cup clash in January and trains with the first-team squad.

However, it remains to be seen if Weston will play again this season as debate continues over whether League One will resume or be terminated in the same way as League Two.

Weston cannot sign a professional deal with Blackpool until his 17th birthday.

However, Scottish rules allow clubs north of the border to tie young stars to professional terms at the age of 16.
