Report: Arsenal look to secure swap deal with Premier League rivals for prolific winger

Arsenal are to renew their interest in Manchester City midfielder Raheem Sterling as part of a swap deal for Alexis Sanchez in January.

The Daily Mail claim that the Premier League leaders will make another attempt to sign Arsenal's star man, but the Gunners are keen on landing Sterling as part of any potential deal.

Arsene Wenger failed in his attempt to sign the 22-year-old England international over the summer, but wants to re-visit the potential swap deal when the transfer window re-opens.

Football Insider verdict:

Sterling would be a good replacement for Sanchez but it remains to be seen whether City boss Pep Guardiola would even consider allowing him to leave the Etihad Stadium. The England midfielder has become a key part of the Spaniard’s plans after scoring 10 goals and contributing two assists so far this season. However, this will not prevent Arsenal from making another attempt to bring him to London in the New Year, and it might depend on how badly City want Sanchez. Gunners fans will be hoping that Wenger can secure a replacement for their Chilean Sanchez. It may be within the club’s interest to cash in on him in January as he would be able to leave the club on a free transfer when his contract expires at the end of the season.
