West Ham have rejected Roma's opening bid to sign Sofiane Feghouli on a loan-to-buy deal this month, according to a report.

Sky Italy journalist Gianluca Di Marzio has claimed on his website that the Hammers have turned down the Serie A club's initial loan offer for the attacking midfielder.

But it is said that Feghouli, 27, is "strongly determined" to join Roma and has made it clear that he wants to make the switch.

West Ham's stance is holding back the deal but Di Marzio reports that the Italian outfit have no intention of giving up their pursuit of the Algeria international.

Roma are likely to return with a second offer for Feghouli, who has been on the periphery of the West Ham side since his arrival on a free transfer last summer after leaving Valencia.

Roma manager Luciano Spalletti has admitted he is keen to sign Feghouli as his club aim to keep pace with Serie A leaders Juventus.

Di Marzio has claimed on his website that negotiations have centred on a deal in which Roma would pay the Hammers a loan fee to take Feghouli for the rest of the season with an option to buy him permanently for £10.3million in the summer.

Feghouli, 27, has made 15 appearances in all competitions for West Ham, which have yielded just one goal and a single assist, although he has been a substitute in many of those games.

Roma are in the market for a wide attacking midfielder this month as they attempt to keep the pressure on high flying Juventus.

Luciano Spalletti's side are second in the table and one point behind the reigning champions after their 1-0 victory at Genoa on Sunday afternoon, although Juve do have two matches in hand.

In other West Ham transfer news, the club have clinched the signing of a prolific striker.
