Aston Villa have no intention of letting Man United target Emiliano Martinez leave in January, sources have told Football Insider.

But it is understood Villa will knock back all offers for their number one in the winter window.

Steven Gerrard regards Martinez as an "untouchable" in his line-up and has started him in all bar one Premier League match - when he had a knee injury - since he took charge at Villa Park.

Martinez has transformed his career since joining Villa from Arsenal in the summer of 2020 for an initial £17million rising to £20m.

The Midlands giants now value the keeper at more than double that sum - around £45m - after tying him to a new contract in January of this year.

The stopper has also become a regular for Argentina and helped his national side win the Copa America in 2021.

Man United let one goalkeeper leave and signed another on loan this summer as Dean Henderson departed for Nottingham Forest while Martin Dubravka arrived from Newcastle United.

Despite questions over De Gea's form, Dubravka is yet to make his Man United debut and failed to make the squad for their game against Sheriff on 15 September.

Aston Villa face Leeds United at Elland Road on Sunday (2 October).

The Villains are looking to record back-to-back victories for the first time this season after defeating Southampton in their last outing (16 September).
