Scott Sinclair has told Celtic chiefs he wants to quit the club before the end of the month, Football Insider understands.

The winger, 30, came close to joining Derby County yesterday but a deal could not be agreed between the Championship club and the Hoops before the English window shut.

A Celtic source has told Football Insider that an exit for Sinclair from Celtic remains on the cards before the Scottish window closes at the end of August.

Sinclair, who was a big favourite of former manager Brendan Rodgers, is looking for the exit door after three trophy-fuelled years in Scotland.

The winger was not in the Celtic squad for the Champions League qualifier in Cluj on Wednesday night, which finished in a 1-1 draw, and Neil Lennon admitted a transfer was a possibility.

Sinclair has entered the final year of his Hoops contract after the club triggered an extension in May, which keeps him at Parkhead until the summer of 2020.

Celtic

He has been a key player of the side that has won three consecutive trebles since signing from Aston Villa in the summer of 2016.

Sinclair's 163 appearances for Celtic have yielded 61 goals and 34 assists, and he won the Scottish player of the year in his first season at the club.
