Celtic have told outcast defender Cristian Gamboa to find a new club, Football Insider understands.

The right-back, 29, has not played for the Hoops since mid-December and last featured in a matchday squad as an unused substitute in the Scottish League Cup final.

Gamboa is out of contract at the end of the season and Celtic source has told Football Insider there are no plans to offer him an extension and extend his three-year spell at the club.

The Costa Rican has been informed he is free to find new employers after failing to establish himself at Parkhead since being signed by ex-manager Brendan Rodgers from West Brom for a fee of around £1million in the summer of 2016.

Gamboa has made just 31 appearances for Celtic, including just 16 league starts, and has failed to displace Mikael Lustig as the first choice right-back.

He made his debut in a 7-0 thrashing by Barcelona and has been unable to replicate the form that has brought him 73 international caps.
