Mateusz Klich's new Leeds United contract is worth more than £5million, Football Insider has learned.

The Yorkshire giants announced last Saturday that the Poland international has signed a four-and-a-half-year deal running until the summer of 2024.

A Leeds source has told Football Insider that Klich, 29, has agreed a contract worth more than £20,000-a-week.

This lifts him towards the top bracket of earners at Elland Road led by goalkeeper Kiko Casilla, striker Patrick Bamford and midfielder Kalvin Phillips.

Klich has established himself as an integral member of Marcelo Bielsa's promotion-chasing side.

The midfielder has remarkably started all 64 of Bielsa's Championship matches in charge of Leeds, including the 16 this season.

His previous deal, signed when he joined in the summer of 2017, was due to expire next summer.

Leeds were keen to tie down a player they believe is good enough to play in the Premier League should they succeed in their promotion bid this season.

United are third in the Championship table with just over a third of the season gone and only two points behind leaders West Brom.

Klich has signed a deal that would keep him at Elland Road until he turns 34 were he to see it out.

That is a ringing endorsement of a player who Bielsa regards as instrumental in his team's front-foot playing style in which the opposition are pressed relentlessly when on the ball.
