Liverpool have set their sights on signing Bukayo Saka but Arsenal are planning to rebuff all interest this summer if he rejects a new deal, Football Insider can reveal.

The Premier League leaders have been alerted by the performances of the versatile left-sided ace, 18, following his almost instant impact for the Gunners first team.

An Arsenal source has told Football Insider that the club are working on tying Saka to a new five-year deal to replace his current agreement, which expires next year.

Talks have been on hold during the lockdown after an initial offer was made to the teenager earlier this year.

Arsenal intend to hold Saka to his contract even if discussions continue beyond this summer and into the final year of his contract, as now seems likely.

Liverpool's recruitment team have been hugely impressed by the youngster's development this season.

He fits their favoured recruitment model of an upwardly mobile talent who has already thrived at senior level and has best years way ahead of him.

Saka has emerged from the Gunners youth ranks to establish himself in the first team and delivered a series of eyecatching displays.

Able to play left midfield or on the left side of defence, he started nine of Arsenal's 11 Premier League matches before the season was suspended after leapfrogging Saed Kolasinac and the injured Kieran Tierney.

Saka, who has just 13 months left on his contract, has made 12 league starts among 29 appearances in all competitions this season.
