Leeds United recruitment chief Victor Orta is working on a deal to sell Samuel Saiz to a Spanish club amid doubts Getafe will convert his loan into a full-time switch, Football Insider understands.

Leeds announced in mid-December that the attacking midfielder had signed temporarily with the La Liga club "with a view to a permanent transfer in the summer".

But Saiz has failed to make an impressure at the Madrid-based outfit to throw the deal into considerable and a United source has told Football Insider that Orta is looking at alternative options to Getafe.

Leeds do not want the 28-year-old back at Elland Road at the end of the season and are keen to sell a player who they value at around the £6million mark.

Hopes of securing such a fee have been hit by Saiz's second-string status at Getafe, where he has started just two matches during his loan and has not had a single minute of action since 9 February.

The Spaniard was an unused substitute for Getafe's 3-0 win over Sevilla at the weekend after failing to make the matchday 18 in four of the club's five previous league fixtures.

Nevertheless, the source explained that director of football Orta and his team are confident of finding a buyer willing to pay big money for Saiz if Getafe pull the plug on a permanent switch.

The Spaniard has two years remaining on the four-year contract he signed when joining from Huesca in the summer of 2017.
