Paul Robinson has heaped praise on Tottenham midfielder Tanguy Ndombele for his "absolutely superb" performance at Newcastle.

However, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Spurs and England number one said the 24-year-old's consistency is still a problem.

Ndombele was mightily impressive on Sunday as Nuno Espirito's Santo's side recovered from 1-0 down to win 3-2 at St. James' Park.

The centre-midfielder scored, completed 92.4 per cent of his attempted passes and touched the ball 98 times - only Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg was involved more. (Whoscored)

Across all competitions this season, Ndombele has scored twice in six appearances.

He has four years remaining on his contract in north London.

When asked by Football Insider for his assessment of the Frenchman's display, Robinson said: "I thought he was absolutely superb.

"But he is the club's record signing at the end of the day. We need to see the best of him consistently.

"He showed yesterday how well he can play. He showed that he has ability both going forward and going back.

"The problem is we just do not see it often enough. There is no point doing it one week against Newcastle and not the next.

"If he can find that consistency Tottenham have a serious player on their hands."

Spurs signed Ndombele from Lyon in a club-record £54million deal in July 2019.

He has contributed 10 goals and eight assists in his 81 appearances for the Lilywhites since.
