West Ham are closing in on the signing of Toulouse centre-back Issa Diop, according to a Sky Sports journalist.

The 21-year-old is set for a medical in London today after the £22million fee was agreed with the Ligue 1 side last week.

Kaveh Solhekol, a Sky Sports reporter, made the claim on his personal Twitter page on Monday morning.

Football Insider verdict:

Diop will provide West Ham with a towering presence at the back – the colossus stands at 6ft 4in according to Transfermarkt. He's also a highly-rated young player who other Premier League teams were after and its testament to the pulling power of new manager Manuel Pellegrini that the Hammers look to have this race won. Everton were said to be monitoring the powerhouse and Tottenham were said to be in pole position for his signature back in March. Diop is big but he's also got a good turn of pace and with five caps for the France Under-21 team, he's seen as a rising star in his country. He also fits the mould of what Pellegrini wants in his West Ham side, and he will definitely improve their defence. If all goes well with the medical, then we expect him to be confirmed as a new Pellegrini player shortly.
