Rangers are close to agreeing a new contract with rising star Alex Lowry, Football Insider can exclusively reveal.

A Rangers source has told Football Insider that the club are now closing in on a new deal for the teenager despite strong Premier League interest.

It comes as a surprise twist with Rangers fearing a move down south was inevitable given the calibre of clubs clamouring to land Lowry.

Rangers have been keen to tie Lowry down as they believe he is a talent with huge potential.

His current terms expire next summer and the Gers have been keen to tie him down to a deal that runs until 2025.

The teenager scored on his debut for Rangers against Stirling Albion earlier this season.

He has made a total of four senior appearances so far, with one league start under his belt.

The Scotland youth international has also been named on the bench on a number of occasions, including the 1-0 loss to RB Leipzig in yesterday's (28 April) Europa League semi-final first leg.
