Lucas Torreira has agreed personal terms with Fiorentina as he closes in on a permanent move from Arsenal, Football Insider has learned.

The central midfielder, 26, has made a big impact on a season-long loan at the Serie A club this season.

A recruitment source has told Football Insider that Fiorentina are working on a deal to sign Torreira permanently and talks are at an advanced stage.

Arsenal

Torreira has accepted the club’s offer of a four-year contract and terms are agreed.

The Italian outfit are now planning to trigger the buy option in the midfielder’s deal and convert the move into a permanent one.

Torreira has spent the 2020/21 and 2021/22 campaigns out on loan after being deemed surplus to requirements at Arsenal.

He spent last season at Atletico Madrid, where he played 26 times and helped the Spanish giants win La Liga.

The Uruguay star then spent pre-season with his parent club.

However, Mikel Arteta gave Torreira the green light to join Fiorentina in August.

He has made 30 appearances for the Serie A outfit and convinced his loan club to make the move permanent.

Fiorentina had been in talks with Torreira over terms of a long-term contract, which have now been agreed.

The Italians will now turn to trigger the optional purchase clause agreed with Arsenal last summer.

The midfielder's current contract at Arsenal expires in 2023.

He has played 89 times for the Gunners since joining from Sampdoria in 2018.

However, his last appearance for the north Londoners came back in July 2020.

He also has 37 caps for Uruguay under his belt.
