Wigan Athletic have agreed a deal to sign Watford striker Ashley Fletcher on loan, sources have told Football Insider.

The 26-year-old is headed to the DW Stadium for a medical and to put the finishing touches to the deal.

Watford have given the green light to Fletcher's departure after agreeing to sign Keinan Davis from Aston Villa.

Davis is also undergoing a medical on Friday (12 August) as he joins from the Premier League outfit.

Sources told Football Insider on Friday (12 August) that the 24-year-old has agreed a season-long loan deal with Watford.

That has opened the door for Wigan Athletic who are in desperate need of reinforcements.

After losing six senior players following their promotion to the Championship last season, Leam Richardson has only added two new faces to his squad this summer.

Defender Ryan Nyambe has joined a free transfer from Blackburn Rovers while forward Nathan Broadhead signed on loan from Everton this week.

Fletcher, who has four years left on his Watford contract, spent the second half of last season on loan with MLS outfit New York Red Bulls.

The former Man United youngster did not score in seven appearances for New York Red Bulls but has a better record in the Championship.

Across his time with Sunderland and Middlesbrough, he found the net on 21 occasions and provided a further 12 assists in 102 games, including 72 starts, in the second tier.

After drawing their first two Championship games of the season, Wigan are next in action against Bristol City on Saturday (13 August).
