Blackburn Rovers defender Harry Pickering has agreed a new long-term contract with the club, sources have told Football Insider.

The left-back, 24, still has 18 months remaining on his current deal which is set to expire in the summer of 2025.

The Riversiders have successfully secured Pickering on a four-year deal and following a breakthrough in negotiations, a full agreement has been reached.

Pickering has made 20 appearances for Jon Dahl Tomasson's side in all competitions this season and is likely to reach a landmark 100 appearances for the club in his next outing.

In 99 games for Blackburn, he has three goals and four assists to his name.

He joined from League One side Crewe Alexandra in January 2021 but was loaned back to them for the remainder of the season.

The left-footed Englishman was an academy graduate at Crewe and enjoyed five professional seasons at Gresty Road, scoring 10 goals and getting 14 assists in 167 appearances.

At just age 21 he was named captain of the Railwaymen but since his move, he has become a mainstay in the second division for the Lancashire side.

Blackburn sit seventh in the Championship and just two points behind Hull City in the playoff spots.

The new deal will come as a welcome boost for the club in their hunt for promotion back to the Premier League for the first time since 2012.

Leeds

After their 3-1 defeat to Sheffield Wednesday, Blackburn will welcome promotion-chasing Leeds United to Ewood Park on Saturday (9 December).
