Blackpool have submitted a £300,000 bid for Shrewsbury midfielder Josh Vela, Football Insider can exclusively reveal.

The Championship outfit have made a move for the 27-year-old in the final week of the window.

A Blackpool source has told Football Insider the club have tabled the six-figure offer in the hope of persuading Shrewsbury to sell.

Blackpool

Vela has a contract that expires at the League One club next year.

Blackpool are hoping to take advantage of his situation at the New Meadow and have opened the bidding for his capture.

The Tangerines have identified the former Bolton and Hibernian man as a midfielder who would improve their squad in the Championship.

They are hoping to strike a deal before next week's transfer deadline.

The Shropshire Star claimed in June Shrewsbury were in talks over a new contract for Vela.

However, the Salford-born star is yet to commit his future to Salop.

As such, the Shrews may be forced to cash in now, rather than lose him on a free transfer next summer.

Vela joined Shrewsbury in January 2020 on a free after being released by Hibernian.

He had only joined the Scottish Premiership side in July 2019 after leaving Bolton.

The midfielder played 14 times for Hibs, scoring once and contributing two assists, before returning south of the border.

He has made 58 appearances for the Shrews to date, 49 of which came last season.

Shrewsbury

Vela has played every minute of Shrewsbury's four League One games so far, all of which have ended in defeat.

Meanwhile, Blackpool sit third from bottom in the Championship after two draws and two losses.
