Sources: Brighton make move to stop Arsenal signing Mitoma
Brighton have opened talks with Kaoru Mitoma over a new deal to fend off interest from Arsenal, sources have told Football Insider.
The 25-year-old has been a breakthrough star for the Seagulls this season, and his scintilating form on the south coast has attracted interest from the Premier League leaders.
However, Roberto De Zerbi and the club board have moved quickly to open talks with Mitoma over a new long-term deal at the Amex Stadium.
Football Insider sources revealed on Saturday (18 March) that Brighton have opened talks over a double-your-money deal with Mitoma.
The Japanese international is currently earning £20,000-per-week at Brighton, but the Premier League outfit have tabled an offer to double his wages to £40,000.
Arsenal have recently poached Ben White and Leandro Trossard from Brighton, and the Gunners were also in the market for Moises Caicedo in January.
Brighton rejected a £70million bid for the Ecuadorian midfielder and tied himdown to a new contract, and attention has now turned to securing the future of Mitoma.
Football Insider sources revealed on Friday (17 March) that Arsenal are lining up a "huge" summer bid for Caicedo despite his new deal.
Mitoma has scored eight and assisted six goals across 26 appearances this season, including four goal contributions in his last three Premier League games.
He joined Brighton in 2021 from Japanese side Kawasaki Frontale but was sent on loan to Union SG last season before being handed his chance in England.
