Brighton have rejected an offer from Polish side Legia Warsaw for defender James Furlong, sources have told Football Insider.

The left-back, 21, is highly regarded at Brighton and signed a new deal at the Amex Stadium earlier this summer.

Legia have now submitted a bid to sign the Irishman on a permanent deal, which has been rejected by Brighton.

In addition, a number of clubs in England have expressed an interest in signing Furlong on loan.

He had a spell on loan at Motherwell in the second half of last season whilst his current contract at Brighton runs until 2025.

During his four month stint in Scotland, the left-back made 16 appearances for Motherwell across all competitions and was in the starting lineup for all but one of those games.

The 21-year-old offered up thee assists in those outings.

Furlong has made one senior appearance for Roberto de Zerbi's side, a five minute cameo in the Premier League side's second round League Cup win over Forest Green Rovers.

The defender featured 16 times for Brighton's Under-21s side last term across all competitions and started all 13 of the Premier League 2 outings.

The young Seagulls finished sixth in the league, winning 11 of their 26 matches.

The defender has also been capped at youth level for Ireland, most recently for the Under-21s side, making his debut in June 2023, under manager Jim Crawford.
