Man United could discuss a potential new contract for Bruno Fernandes but are unlikely to offer him a mega-money pay rise following Sir Jim Ratcliffe's takeover, sources have told Football Insider.

Al-Hilal are among the sides interested, but it is believed Fernandes remains happy at Old Trafford despite recent struggles under Erik ten Hag.

The Portugal international has two years remaining on his current deal - Man United also have a one-year extension clause - and could sit down to discuss new terms this summer.

However, a well-placed source has told Football Insider that Fernandes is unlikely to be handed a bumper pay rise - even after being awarded the captaincy last year (2023).

Sir Jim Ratcliffe and INEOS agreed a deal to buy 25% of the Man United in December 2023 and have taken charge of football operations at Old Trafford.

It is believed they are keen to rein in spending on player wages as they look to shake up United's strategy in the coming years.

Fernandes, who was given the armband by Ten Hag after Harry Maguire's removal from the role, has notched seven goals and seven assists in 31 appearances this season.

Man United

The Portugal international joined the club from Sporting CP four years ago and has become a key man at Old Trafford.

As per FBRef, Casemiro and Raphael Varane are the current top earners at United - bringing in weekly wages of £350,000 and £340,000 respectively.
