Sources: Burnley agree Hennessey deal as Chelsea beaten in race

Burnley have agreed to sign goalkeeper Wayne Hennessey following his Crystal Palace exit, Football Insider has learned.

This site revealed on 13th July that Sean Dyche's side were in pole position to land the 34-year-old after his Selhurst Park release.

A recruitment source has told Football Insider that Burnley have now reached an agreement with Hennessey after a breakthrough in talks.

He has accepted their contract offer and is set to put pen to paper on a deal.

That could then pave the way for Bailey Peacock-Farrell to go out on a season-long loan.

The capture of Hennessey also ends Chelsea's pursuit of the free agent goalkeeper.

Palace confirmed Hennessey's departure on Tuesday (July 13th) after seven-and-a-half years at the club in which he made 132 appearances.

Burnley also have Nick Pope and Will Norris on their books as well as youngster Peacock-Farrell, who was signed from Leeds United.

Dyche has moved for Hennessey to bring an experienced option into his squad capable of proving cover and competition for first choice Pope.

The Wales international started as a youth player at Manchester City before flourishing at Wolves, where he made 166 appearances.

He made his international debut for Wales in May 2007 and has played 96 times for his country.

Hennessey left Wolves to join Palace in January 2014 and made his debut on the final day of the 2013-14 season.

However, he played only once last season in which his availability was affected by a thigh muscle problem.

Vicente Guaita was Roy Hodgson's first choice between the sticks, with Jack Butland his backup.
