Cameron Congreve has agreed a new Swansea City deal after they rejected a loan offer from Rangers, sources have told Football Insider.

The Glasgow giants made a move to lure the versatile midfielder, 18, for the upcoming season.

But Swansea knocked back Rangers' interest and offered Congreve a contract extension that he has now accepted.

He is set to be part of Russell Martin's first-team plans in the new season and the club are excited about what they see as the youngster's huge potential.

Congreve broke into the Swansea side at the back end of last season and made five appearances in the Championship after coming through the club's ranks.

The Wales youth international only signed his first professional contract in March just before his first-team debut.

That deal still has two years left to run but he is set to be rewarded after breaking into the senior side.

Of his five appearances in 2021-22, he started the final two games of the season and also came off the bench in the 4-0 win over Cardiff City in April as the Swans completed a historic double over their south Wales rivals.

He made his Wales Under-18 debut in March and now has four goals in six appearances for Rob Edwards' side.

After a slow start to the transfer window, Rangers have been busy in the past week.

Rabbi Matondo became the Ibrox club's fourth signing of the summer on Tuesday (12 July) when he completed a permanent move from Schalke.

They have also signed Antonio Colak and Tom Lawrence while John Souttar has joined after signing a pre-contract deal in January.
