Sunderland defender Jack Baldwin has agreed a deadline-day deal to join Salford City on loan, Football Insider understands.

The Football League new boys have been searching for a new centre-back before the transfer window closes and they are now set to finalise a late-window move for Baldwin.

A Sunderland source has told Football Insider that the terms of a loan switch have been agreed after manager Jack Ross gave the green light for him to leave.

Baldwin has found himself out of favour at Sunderland this season after being a mainstay of the side in 2018-19.

The 26-year-old has not started in the league for Sunderland this term and he is happy to drop down into League Two in search of regular first-team football.

This comes after the 2018 signing from Peterborough United made 37 league and play-off starts among 41 appearances in all competitions last season.

Salford have struggled so far in League Two and Graham Alexander is desperate to shore up his backline and add some experience to his side.
