Kilmarnock sensation Zander Craik saw a dream deadline day move to Crystal Palace fall through at the eleventh hour, sources have told Football Insider.

The forward, 17, had attracted interest from Palace after catching the eye of scouts during his time with Kilmarnock's youth sides.

Palace agreed a £50,000 deal to sign the Kilmarnock youngster before Thursday's transfer deadline, but senior figures at Selhurst Park pulled the plug on the deal at the last minute.

Craik had agreed terms with the Eagles and the move was ready to be finalised, but the teenage star will now stay put in Scotland.

Craik is on the verge of breaking into the first team at Rugby Park and is considered one of the club's top-rated youngsters.

He has been a star player in their Under-18s setup and opened the season with four goals and an assist in a youth clash against Dundee United.

In what was a quiet transfer window for Premier League clubs, Palace topped the charts when it came to money spent.

As reported by Sky Sports, the Londoners spent a league-topping £30.5million signing Blackburn Rovers midfielder Adam Wharton and Genk right-back Daniel Munoz.

Roy Hodgson is under pressure to turn around Palace's poor form in recent weeks with the Eagles only six points clear of the relegation spots in the Premier League.
