Fleetwood Town have agreed the signing of Peterborough striker Jack Marriott, sources have told Football Insider.

Marriott, 28, was given permission to have talks and undergo a medical at Fleetwood after he was left out of Posh’s squad against Portsmouth on Saturday.

Fleetwood Town have made a new striker one of their top priorities and they moved to beat a number of rivals to Marriott’s signature.

Scott Brown's side have struggled for goals this season having scored just 29 times in 27 league matches.

Marriott has found the back of the net seven times for Peterborough this season in 28 appearances across all competitions.

It adds to his tally of nine goals in 28 appearances during his first season back with the club in the 2021/22 season.

Marriott is currently enjoying his second stint with The Posh after his extremely successful 2017/18 campaign there.

He scored 27 goals in 44 league appearances en route to picking up the League One Player of the Year as well as the club's Player of the Year award.

Marriott then left for Derby County, where he spent three seasons at Pride Park before leaving in the midst of the club's financial crisis.

He played a part in the club's journey to the Championship playoff final in 2019, scoring twice against Leeds United in the semi-finals.

Overall, he made 69 Championship appearances for the Rams, scoring 10 goals before departing in 2021.
