Sources: Big new development in Tottenham bid to sign Milan Skriniar
Tottenham have been told Inter Milan will significantly drop their £55million asking price for Milan Skriniar after new talks today, Football Insider understands.
Spurs technical director Steve Hitchen was in Milan on Wednesday for discussions with the defender's representatives.
A recruitment source has told Football Insider that Tottenham are working on multiple types of formulas to entice Inter to sell Skriniar, 25, and believe a deal can be agreed below the £40m mark.
These include senior players in part-exchange, a portion of the fee weighted on performances and multiple payments made in instalments.
Tottenham have also suggested a loan-to-buy deal for the centre-back but Inter have knocked back that option.
The Serie A giants want a mammoth transfer fee for one of their prize assets and their openness to a deal has given Spurs fresh hope of an agreement ahead of the 5 October cut-off.
Skriniar fell out of favour at Inter towards the end of last season and is said to be tempted by the prospect of regular playing time at Tottenham.
The Slovenia international has been a mainstay of the Italian side since joining in 2017, making 128 appearances in all competitions.
It has been reported in Italy that Inter are already discussing potential replacements for Skriniar, including Schalke's Ozan Kabak.
Tottenham have been active during this transfer window, bringing Gareth Bale back on loan while also signing Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, Joe Hart, Matt Doherty and Sergio Reguilon.
Spurs have three senior centre-backs in Toby Alderweireld, Davinson Sanchez and Eric Dier, and can also call upon youngster Japhet Tanganga.
