Defender Joe Worrall has landed a significant pay rise after agreeing a new three-year deal at Nottingham Forest, sources have told Football Insider.

Forest announced the centre-back's new contract, which runs until June 2026, on Friday (8 September).

Worrall's previous £15,000-a-week deal at the City Ground was due to expire in June 2024.

But he has now landed a significant pay rise after the club consolidated themselves in the Premier League last term.

Football Insider revealed last month (1 August) that the 26-year-old was in talks with the Forest hierarchy about a potential renewal.

Worrall's new agreement keeps him at the club for the best years of his career after coming through the ranks at the club.

A well-placed source has told Football Insider that Forest have moved to keep the centre-back at the club amid interest in his services from elsewhere.

The club captain could have discussed a pre-contract with foreign clubs on 1 January prior to signing his new deal.

Worrall has started three of Forest's four Premier League games so far this season.

The Nottingham-born defender made 34 appearances across all competitions last season despite a deluge of signings threatening to take his place in the side.

Ex-England Under-21 international Worrall has now notched 217 total appearances for Nottingham Forest and was a key part of their eventual promotion via the Championship playoffs in the 2021-22 campaign.

Cooper's side have won two of their opening four Premier League games and sit ninth in the table.

Forest return to action against Burnley after the international break (18 September).
