Aston Villa captain John McGinn is set to land a bumper new deal at the club, sources have told Football Insider.

A well-placed source has told Football Insider that McGinn, who currently earns a reported wage of £55,000-a-week, will be brought more in line with the club's top earners to reflect his importance to Aston Villa.

The Scotland international, who has two years left on his current agreement, is seen as a key member of Unai Emery’s squad.

It is believed a new deal will also serve to ward off potential interest in the summer transfer window.

There is optimism on both sides about confirming a renewal in the coming weeks.

According to FBRef, Lucas Digne (£160,000-a-week) and Boubacar Kamara (£150,000-a-week) are currently the top earners at Villa Park.

McGinn is set to follow in the footsteps of defender Tyrone Mings, who penned a fresh three-and-a-half-year contract earlier this year, keeping him at the club until June 2026.

The Scot made 36 appearances across all competitions in the 2022-23 campaign, notching one goal and three assists.

He joined Aston Villa from Hibernian in 2018 and helped the Midlands giants to promotion in the 2018-19 season.

McGinn has made 183 appearances for the club in total, notching 17 goals and 26 assists.
