Leeds United have pulled the plug on their pursuit of Newcastle United goalkeeper Freddie Woodman, Football Insider has learned.

However, the £10million-rated shot-stopper rejected Leeds' approach as he doesn't want to play second fiddle to Illan Meslier next season.

A source at Elland Road has told Football Insider that the club have since ended their interest in Woodman and have moved onto other targets.

It is understood that Levante's Dani Cardenas, 24, and Valerenga's Kristoffer Klaesson, 20, are two alternatives being considered.

Both players represent cheaper options than Woodman, as they have considerably less first-team experience.

Cardenas, who has just one year left on his contract in Spain, has made 13 career appearances for Levante.

The youngest of the three, Klaesson, has made 55 appearances in the Norwegian top flight for Valerenga.

Woodman already has 134 senior appearances to his name, of which 95 have came while on loan at Swansea City.

Speaking in March, Swans boss Steve Cooper hailed the contribution Woodman had made to the club.

He told club media: “We love Freddie. He’s been brilliant for us and has shown his true worth this season."

Woodman has two years remaining on his contract at his parent club Newcastle.

Leeds United are in the market for a new goalkeeper in this window after Kiko Casilla completed a loan move to Elche earlier this month.
