Leicester City are interested in a move for Fulham midfielder Tom Cairney, sources have told Football Insider.

The 32-year-old is entering the final year of his contract and the Foxes are hoping to lure him away from Craven Cottage.

New Leicester boss Enzo Maresca has targeted attacking midfielder Cairney as he looks to build a squad capable of challenging for promotion back to the Premier League.

Cairney, who is club captain at Fulham, struggled for regular game time last season and made just six starts in the Premier League.

The centre-mid joined the London club from Blackburn back in 2015 and has made 283 appearances for the Cottagers since then, scoring 43 goals and providing 32 assists.

Fulham boss Marco Silva has been full of praise for his captain throughout the season.

As quoted by The Independent (9 May), Silva said Cairney has had a "good season" even if he is not starting every game.

The Fulham manager insisted he is aware of the midfielder's quality on the ball and insisted he deserves good performances and a good season.

Maresca is on the hunt for reinforcements for a Leicester side that are set to lose some of their biggest players.

Having already lost Youri Tielemans to Aston Villa following the expiration of his contract, James Maddison could be the next to quit for a Premier League side.

According to Sky Sports (28 June), Maddison is set to undergo a medical on Wednesday (28 June) after the clubs agreed a £40m deal for the England international.
