Sources: Liverpool calling every day as bid to beat Londoners to signing intensifies
Liverpool are stepping up their bid to sign Norwich City left-back Jamal Lewis this window.
The Merseysiders have identified the 22-year-old as their top target to provide cover and competition for Andy Robertson next season.
A recruitment source has told Football Insider that the club have been calling the Norwich man's camp "every day" to convince him to swap East Anglia for Liverpool and get the deal over the line.
Formal talks have yet to begin between the two clubs and are unlikely to do so until there is some common ground over the transfer fee.
Liverpool do not want to pay more than £10million for Lewis, while Norwich value him at considerably more than that.
But plenty of work is going on behind the scenes over the potential transfer, as the player's camp try to secure him a dream move to a global giant.
Liverpool are confident Norwich will lower their expectations, especially if Lewis pushes hard for the deal to go through.
That appears an increasingly likely prospect.
Lewis has been the subject of strong interest from Crystal Palace, which was first revealed by Football Insider in January, and they remain keen on a deal.
He was open to leaving Carrow Road then after losing his place, following an injury, to Sam Byram, a right-back by trade.
Lewis subsequently won back his place in the team but Norwich's relegation to the Championship has significantly altered the picture.
He has made 100 appearances for the Canaries since graduating from their academy side, including 25 Premier League starts this season.
