Livingston have submitted an offer for Colchester goalkeeper Shamal George, sources have told Football Insider.

The Liverpool academy product, 24, has caught the eye of a number of clubs after winning the Colchester player of the year award for last season.

Livingston boss David Martindale has made George a top target as he looks to recruit a new keeper.

The Wirral-born shot-stopper, who is out of contract in June 2023, made 32 appearances across all competitions during the 2021-22 season.

Per FBref, George had the fifth-highest save percentage of any goalkeeper in League Two last season (74.6%).

The 24-year-old kept seven clean sheets as Colchester ended the campaign in 15th place.

The 6ft 3in ace came through the ranks at Liverpool but failed to make a first-team appearance for the top-flight giants.

He went out on loan at Carlisle United, Marine, and Tranmere Rovers but featured sparingly prior to his release at Anfield in 2020.

George joined fourth-tier Colchester later that summer and made 18 appearances in his first season at the club - keeping seven clean sheets.

The Essex-based club took up the option to extend his contract by a further year in May 2022.

Livingston are looking to bolster their goalkeeping options in order to break into the top half of the Scottish Premiership in the 2022-23 campaign.

Current first-choice shot-stopper Max Stryjek started all 32 league matches last term - conceding 43 goals and keeping eight clean sheets.

Livi's season begins today with a Scottish League Cup group game against Albion Rovers.
